Rainforest ( tropical forest)
Rain forests are found in many places over the world. A few of these places are South America, Australia, Southeast Asia, and West Africa. In the Western Hemisphere most Rain Forests are found in Central and South America. In the tropical forest the trees are normally very tall and of a large variety. Most of the plants and trees growing in the Rainforest are evergreens, meaning that they never loose their leaves. Also many trees are covered in vines and epiphytes, which are plants who live on sturdier trees because they are unable to depend on themselves to bring air, moisture, and nutrients. The species growing in the rainforest are often not bred close to each other. Seeing as the trees are so tall, little light is able to reach the forest floor.
These Rain Forests are located near the equator in most cases and are often given the name "Tropics". Each rainforest is divided into strata: Emergents, giant trees which are much higher than the average canopy height, the upper part of the trees. Understory, the dark cool area which is underneath the leaves but not touching the ground. Forest Floor, the ground of the forest which is covered in wild life. The largest animals normally inhabit this area.
Many different animals are found in the Rainforest. These animals differ depending on what area you are in. If in South America are few animals that you may encounter are butterflies, jaguars, monkeys, bats, hummingbirds, toucans, anacondas, boars, boas, piranhas, and poison arrow frogs. If in Australia, you may encounter Kangaroos, echidnas, parrots, tree snakes, geckos, duck billed platypuses, opossums, and bandicoots. If in Southeast Asia, there would be tigers, tree shrews, monkeys, foxes, bamboo rats, fantails, whistlers, wood swallows, and butterflies. If in West Africa there tend to be Antelopes, chimpanzees, gorillas, otter shrews, hippopotami, monkeys, bushbabies, and African grey parrots.
On average the temperature is said to be around 20-25 celsius. The soils in the Rainforest are often acidic and poor in nutrition. There are different types of forests which are categorized as Evergreen forests, rain-forests, seasonal rain-forests, semievergreen forests, moist/dry deciduous forests, also knows as Monsoons.
Environmental issues facing the desert are the fact that every year, many acres of rainforest trees are cut down, which are ruining the habitats of many animals. Also as air pollution increases, rain-forests are more and more affected by it. Hunting of rare and endangered animals in the rainforest is causing certain species to become extinct where it is unnecessary. In addition, though touring rain forests are considered something to do, it is not aiding in the saving of the rainforest.
