Grasslands.
The Grasslands, which are often also called the Savanna, Prairies, or Plains, are areas which recieve approximately twenty inches of rain per year. These areas are generally located in dry tropics, often bordering a rain forest. This causes the land to be dry and cracked, which is not adequate for the growth of forests. This results in not much plant growth in the Grasslands. Fires are caused easily by humans and lightning, but plants which are in the grasslands survive due to the fact that their stems and buds are stationed underground. The main type of animals found in the grasslands is the herbivore, but that is not to say that animals do not eat each other in order to survive. There is limited water throughout the year, and many animals have adapted to this, yet there are many which migrate due to this fact.
Grasslands can be found in Africa, Madagascar, Australia, South America, India, and Southeast Asia. There are many different animals which inhabit these areas. Inhabiting Africa there are aardvarks, African Elephants, antelopes, buffalos, cheetahs, giraffe, hippopotami, rhinos, zebras, hornbills, and many others. In Australia there are Kangaroos, wallabies, dove, parrots, and wombats. In South America there are mainly rodents, rheas, and deer. In India there are water buffaloes, Asian Elephants, Indian Rhinos, and Tigers, In Thailand there are Asia elephants, water buffaloes, hogs, ad tigers.
Environment issues facing the Grasslands are the seasonal droughts which are causing the decrease of some of the population. Also animal furs and skin from the Grasslands are valuable and have been traded for many years, also contributing to the decrease of population. The many fires in the Grasslands are causing the gradual decrease of the biome.
